Congresswoman Clark on Short-Term Funding Bill To Re-Open Government

WASHINGTON DC – Congresswoman Katherine Clark, who represents Framingham, released the following statement regarding the latest Republican short term funding bill.

Clark opposed the House Continuing Resolution.

“This fight is far from over. Republicans shut Democrats out of the negotiating room and let their incompetence, outright lies, and empty promises catapult us into this dangerous shutdown. This past year has shown that Republicans are incapable of setting a budget that addresses health care, national security, DREAMers, disaster relief, the opioid epidemic and pensions. They will not do the right thing on merit, they have to be forced into it,” said Clark, a Democrat.

“I want the federal government to reopen and provide services that veterans, seniors, and American families need, but Republicans have repeatedly refused to work towards long term solutions, lurching our government from one crisis to another. Meanwhile, the lives of 800,000 young immigrants, American families without power or clean water, and communities struggling with a crippling opioid epidemic are left hanging,” said Rep. Clark.

“The Republicans in Congress and the White House have given us no indication that they are honorable negotiating partners, and I fear that nothing will change. I hope I’m wrong,” said Rep. Clark.
