FRAMINGHAM – Hoops and Homework is extremely pleased to announce the receipt of a $25,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This critical funding would not have been possible without the leadership and support of Senator Karen Spilka who fought to include our program in the State Budget. We are so appreciative of Senator Karen Spilka’s hard work, as well as the support of State Representatives Chris Walsh and Jack Lewis, and of course the Governor’s office.

“These are things have been identified as a real need in the district and releasing these funds will help help fill some of the gaps for these organizations (e.g. Hoops and Homework) and help people live productive and healthy lives,” Spilka said.
Hoops and Homework is an after school and summer program with centers located in the heart of two of Framingham’s most diverse, but also most economically impoverished, neighborhoods. Our goal is to boost the academic performance of the children we serve to expand their opportunities and help them break the cycle of poverty.

This grant from the Commonwealth will be used to provide critical staffing, supplies and food to ensure that students have a safe, high quality, enriching program experience with oversight by trained and caring adults.  This is a need based program and all funding supports direct service to children, including one healthy meal each day.
