Rockets Defeat Flyers in Season Opener 57-39; Burgess and Swallow Qualify For State Meet

BOSTON – The Framingham High boys indoor track team lost its season opener Thursday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The Needham High Rockets defeated the Flyers 57-39.

The Flyers are now 0-1, under head coach Chris Collins.

Senior Andrew Swallow won the shot put event. His throw of 46-feet, 5-inches qualified him for the state meet.

Junior Ben Burgess won the 2-mile race in 10:02 minutes. His time qualified him for the state meet.

Junior Jelani Steans was a double winner yesterday. He won both the high and long jumps.

He leaped 5-feet and 2 inches in the high jump and went 19-feet, 3.25 inches in the long jump for first place.

Junior Nick Seeto won the dash in 6.93 seconds. Teammate Jon Lam finished in second place at 7.02 seconds.

The Flyers 4 X 200 relay captured first place in 1:39.7 seconds. On  the relay was senior Nick Paget, Seeto, junior Jerry Cruz, and Lam.

Cruz finished second to Needham High in the 300. His time was 39.8 seconds.

Senior captain Nathan Halberstadt finished in third place in the hurdles yesterday, with a time of 9.78 seconds. He also finished third in the 1000-meter race in  2:54.16 minutes.

Framingham High senior Filipe Ferreira finished in third place in the shot put, with a throw of 38-feet, 6.5-inches.

Next up for the Flyers is a meet Thursday against Brookline High at 4:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center.
