Marian/St. Joseph Prep Hockey Wins Season Opener 4-2

FRAMINGHAM – Marian High’s new hockey program won its season opener on Wednesday night.

Bolstered by a strong defensive effort and solid goaltending by junior goaltender Jack O’Dea, the Marian/Saint Joseph’s Prep Phoenix opened the season with a 4-2 win over Minuteman Tech, said head coach Eric Beard.

Andrew Stefura and senior captains Connor Lewis and Mitch Devlin’s line led the offensive attack with five points, including two goals by Stefura, said Beard.

Seniors Ryan Sistrand and Brendan Murphy each added a goal in the victory.

The originally scheduled season opener was cancelled on Saturday, due to the snow storm.

In March, Marian High announced its boys ice hockey program would have a new partnership, and would not longer be a joint venture with Keefe Technical.

Marian announced it would partner with Saint Joseph Preparatory High School in Boston, and play their home games at the Warrior Arena, the training facility of the Boston Bruins.

In December 2016, Marian suspended its joint hockey program with Keefe, after a racial incident.
