Flyers Lose Season Opener to Red Hawks 3-2

NATICK – Framingham High’s boys ice hockey team opened the season last night in Natick against the Red Hawks.

The Flyers had an oustanding season in 2016-17 under new head coach Will Ortiz, winning the Division 1 South title and playing in the Garden for the state championship, ultimately losing to St, Mary’s.

The first period ended in a scoreless tie between the two Bay State Conference rivals.

Framingham’s Will Trischitta game the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the second period. But Natick tied it up to end the middle period 1-1.

Natick scored first in the third perio to go up 2-1, but senior Mike Tersoni beat Natick goalie Mason Bailery to tie the game at 2-2.

With about five minutes left in the game, Natick Rick Mingolelli scored to give Natick the victory.

The two teams will battle again on January 24 at Loring Arena in Framingham.

Next up for the Flyers is a road game against Hingham High on Monday night at 7.
