LETTER: At-Large Council Candidate Says Framingham Needs New, Bold Leadership That Understands Financial Strategies

Dear Resident:

Framingham now needs new, bold leadership by those who understand business and financial strategies – leadership that possesses the ingenuity, skills and ability to solve complex problems.

I believe I possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to serve you as Councilor-at-Large.

Did you know?

There are 351 municipalities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Framingham has the 4th highest residential tax rate in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a rate of $16.71/thousand.

Framingham has the 5th highest commercial tax rate in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a split rate of $36.52 per thousand.

How can Framingham continue to grow its commercial and residential tax base with such high rates?

Currently Selectmen create policy for the Town; set the tax & water/sewer rate  This Board decides how your money is spent. No land use involvement.

Planning Board: Independent of the Selectmen.

This Board generates revenue; Creates Zoning; Controls & Issues Permits for ALL land Use activity; Creates master land use plan & policy.

Voters need to ask those responsible and seeking office why spending & the tax rate is out of control.

Please consider the facts when you vote November 7, 2017.

Christine Long, Chair, Planning Board

Candidate for Councilor-at-Large
