LETTER: League of Women Voters Apologizes To Write-In Candidate For Framingham Mayor

After a thorough investigation of our process for inviting candidates to participate in our Candidates’ Showcase on September 9, I have determined that write-in candidate Scott Liftman was sent an invitation to participate in this event on July 21 in error.

I sincerely apologize to Mayoral Candidate Scott Liftman for the time it took me to determine this, and also for the fact he received this invitation in error.

I take full responsibility for this error on our part.

Although I do acknowledge the mistake on our part in inviting Mr. Liftman, I stand by my decision to not allow Mr. Liftman to participate in the event.

The primary reason is that no other write-in candidates were invited.

In addition, the documentation Mr. Liftman received stated that candidates needed to respond by August 15th if they wanted to participate in our Candidate Showcase, and Mr. Liftman did not do that.

I was not willing to change the rules for just one candidate as that would be unfair to other candidates.

I acknowledge and apologize for the issues that occurred because of our mistake in sending Mr. Liftman an invitation to participate.

A mistake was made that caused justified confusion for Mr. Liftman, and I recognize that and apologize for that mistake on our part.

I wish Mayoral Candidate Scott Liftman good luck in his campaign to be the first mayor of Framingham.

Respectfully,

Stephanie Deeley,

President

Framingham League of Women Voters
