League and Sorority To Hold Voters Registration Drive at Purple Passion 5K

FRAMINGHAM –  The Framingham Unit of the League of Women Voters in partnership with the Rho Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will be registering voters on Saturday, September 23, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Purple Passion 5K Run/Walk 2017 at SMOC Headquarters, 7 Bishop Street in Framingham.

You do not have to be a participant in the Race/Walk to take advantage of this opportunity to register to vote.

Voting is a right and a responsibility of citizens in a democracy. The deadline to register to vote in any election in
Massachusetts is twenty (20) days prior to the date of the election. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the process of
building Framingham into the city you envision it to be. Voter registration is free. We will have forms for you to complete
and we will submit all completed forms to the Town Clerk to complete the process. The election in Framingham for our
first Mayor and 11 City Councilors, as well as 9 School Committee members, will take place on Tuesday, November 7th.
The League is one of the nation’s largest and most longstanding community based voter registration groups. League
volunteers help hundreds of thousands register or update their registration, focusing on reaching underrepresented
groups such as young voters, minorities and first-time voters.

Voting is the most powerful way to have your voice heard, and it is the core of our democracy. The League works all year,
every year, to empower all eligible voters to participate in our political system. As we elect candidates who will be making
decisions that will impact the future of Framingham, the Framingham LWV stands ready to help residents be part of those
decisions by voting for candidates they believe will best serve the needs of the community.

Our partners Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) was founded on a mission comprised of five basic tenets
that have remained unchanged since the sorority’s inception in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. Alpha Kappa
Alpha’s mission is to be of “Service to All Mankind.” The sorority’s current international target areas are: Educational
Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact.

Rho Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated serves the Boston MetroWest areas including
Wellesley, Framingham, and Natick. The chapter has worked diligently to be of “Service to All Mankind” to the MetroWest
community for nearly thirty years. Rho Epsilon Omega strives to be a catalyst for social change in the MetroWest area
and beyond and will set the standard in the areas of civic engagement, leadership, and scholarship. The women of Rho
Epsilon Omega Chapter volunteer monthly at Pearl Street Cupboard & Café in Framingham, regularly donate food,
clothing, and school supplies to “A Place to Turn” in Natick, clean-up Framingham Playgrounds each spring, and conduct
voter registration drives in Wellesley among other service projects.

The event will also offer face painting and other child friendly activities so plan to join us for a fun morning with the added benefit of registering to vote.
