Former Dukes of Hazzard Star Arrested After Alleged Assault At Musical Rehearsal in Waltham

The following is a press release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office:

WALTHAM – Thomas Wopat, 65, of New York, was arraigned today in Waltham District Court on charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and possession of a Class B substance in connection with an allegation of inappropriately touching a cast member during rehearsal of  “42nd Street” being put on by the Reagle Players in Waltham and possession of cocaine.

Judge Sarah Ellis set bail at $1,000 cash and ordered the defendant to stay away from the victim, stay away from any witnesses named in the police report and to stay away from Waltham High School. The next court date is September 26, 2017 for a pre-trial conference. 

On August 2, 2017, Waltham Police arrested the defendant without incident as he was leaving Waltham High School where he was rehearsing for a performance of “42nd Street.”

The defendant was arrested on the charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and transported to Waltham Police Department for booking.

While police were conducting an inventory of the defendant’s property they allegedly located a plastic bag of apparent cocaine in the defendant’s pocket. The defendant was subsequently charged with possession of a Class B substance.

The defendant is charged in connection with inappropriately touching a female cast member on July 23, 2017.  During a rehearsal the defendant allegedly walked behind a female cast member, grabbing her buttocks. 

The prosecutor assigned to today’s arraignment was Assistant District Attorney Daniel Storms.

 These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
