Services Monday For Sudbury Third Grader, Who Died Following A Tragic Boat Incident

SUDBURY -A Memorial Service will be held today, July 31, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish on Concord Street in Sudbury, for a an 8-year-old boy who died following a tragic capsized boat incident in Wareham.

Harry O’Connor was rescued from the capsized boat by a diver, but later died.

He was a third grader in the Sudbury Public Schools. His service is at 5 p.m.

Sudbury Schools Superintendent Anne Wilson announced the death of O’Connor in an email to parents yesterday.

“The O’Connor family would like to thank the community for their support which has been a huge comfort to them at this difficult time,” Wilson wrote. “Nothing compares to the grief and sadness of losing a child. While the family is the most impacted, many others share in the profound sadness of this tragic event.”

About a dozen people were on a powerboat near Hog Island Channel in Wareham on Wednesday when it overturned. O’Connor had a life vest on when he was recovered from under the boat.

According to the Sudbury Superintendent of Schools O’Connor is survived by three siblings.

Grief Counselors will be at Nixon Elementary and Curtis Middle School today from 1 to 3 p.m.
