FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Flyers Twin Valley 12UB softball team played for the league championship Friday night, July 28 in Marlborough. Despite giving their best effort, the Flyers were defeated by a tough Nipmuc Warriors team by a score of 13-0.
The Flyers, with a record of 8-2 during the regular season, beat Hudson to win the East division last Thursday night but were unable to secure the final win against Nipmuc. The Flyers took second place in the League.
This marks the first time the Framingham 12UB team has ever made it to the league championship, and the team vows to come back even stronger next year.
This year’s team was lead by co-head coaches John Blaine and Pat Manning, with assistant coaching duties fulfilled by Mark Novak, Joshua Cedeno, Mike Welch, and Andy Aylesworth.
After the game, both head coaches gave much praise to their players and the league.
“The Framingham Girls FastPitch Softball program has come a long way over the last few years. I’m proud to have been a part of this Summer’s Team that played in the Twin Valley 12UB Division” said coach Pat Manning. “The girls worked very hard throughout the season and had a great time together as they made their way to the top of the division and into the finals. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t win the final game against the West division, but played the game with style and left the field with their heads high.”
Coach John Blaine said “This team had great spirit, dedication and commitment. They worked as a team all season and went further than any Framingham girls team has gone before. It was an honor to work with them all year. The future is bright.”
