FRAMINGHAM – For the first time in the last five seasons, the Framingham High baseball team will advance to the MIAA playoffs.

The Flyers earned a spot in the post-season tournament with a 4-3 win over Wellesley High at Bowditch field today, May 18.

The last time Framingham High was in the MIAA tourney was in 2012, when they defeated BC High 3-2 in the first round of the Division 1 South tournament at Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury.

Framingham High, under head coach Dan Avery, is now 10-6 on the season.

In the top of the first inning,Wellesley’s Henry Wyecker hit a solo home run off of Framingham starter Nick Seeto, but the Flyers would answer in the bottom on the first.

Jarrod Brockway reached on an error, Jarrod Marifiote singled to center field and Sam Phipps walked to load the bases. Jake Brockway hit a deep fly to center field that score Jarrod Brockway from third and move Marifiote to third to tie the game at 1-1. Jake Modica followed up with an infield hit that scored Marrifiote and gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Sam Phipps scored on a pass ball to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead after the first inning.

Wellesley would score again in the third inning on two hits and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-2.

Nick Seeto pitched very well for the Flyers going 6 1/3 innings giving up 3 earned runs, 7 hits and 1 walk.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Flyers would strike again on a much needed run when Jake Modica who went 2-3 on the day with an RBI would lead off with a single and Peter Gill would lay down a great bunt to move Modica to 2nd. With two outs, Junior Trevor Smith singled and Modica would score the Flyers fourth run.

Smith’s RBI ended up bringing in the the winning run as Wellesley had back to back hits in the 7th inning to make the score 4-3 before Framingham would bring in Sam Phipps for the second day in a row to close out the game on a ground ball to Gill at second base.

Framingham, weather permitting, will be back on the diamong again today at 3:45 p.m. with a game against Franklin High.
