Saint Bridget School Custodian One of 10 Finalists for Janitor of the Year

FRAMINGHAM – Saint Bridget School custodian Fred Nieves is one of 10 finalists for the Cintas Janitor of Year contest.

The winner will be determined by a public vote.

After learning of the nation-wide contest, the Saint Bridget School faculty and staff wrote nomination letters on behalf of Deacon Fred.

Nieves, a Framingham resident, was chosen from 1,200 nominations, as one of the 10 finalists.

Cintas, based in Ohio, made the national announcement today of the 10 finalists.

Saint Bridget School held an assembly in the school hall to announce it to Deacon Fred, said Jennifer Ryan.

“It came as a huge surprise to him and we had his family and (Saint Bridget Church) Monsignor Francis Strahan and Fr. Gabino (from St. Stephen’s Church, where Nieves is a Deacon) present for the announcement,” said Ryan.

Nieves, known as Deacon Fred, has worked at Saint Bridget School since 2004.

The Janitor of the Year contest aims to shine a spotlight on those who work behind the scenes year-round to make schools a clean, safe and positive place.

Voting will be open through April 14 at

“With over 1,200 nominations, it was more difficult than ever to determine our top ten finalists,” said Jillian Bauer, Assistant Marketing Manager, Cintas, in a statement. “These janitors are the hearts and souls of their schools.
