Framingham High Principal Screening Committee To Start Reviewing Resumes Monday

FRAMINGHAM – Thursday, March 16 will be the deadline to apply to be the next Framingham High School principal, said Framingham Public Schools Human Resource Director Inna Kantor London.

Framingham High Principal Elyse Torbert submitted her resignation last month. She is leaving in July to move to the west coast with her family. Torbert is the third high school principal since 2014.

The goal, said London, is to have a new principal named in early May.

Tonight, March 13, there is a focus group for parents and member of the community to discuss what characteristics they would like in a new principal and to discuss what the school’s priorities should be for the first six months on the job. The one-hour meeting will be held in the high school’s library starting at 7.

There was a focus group for parents and the community last week and again last night.  Less than 50 parents and community members attended the two forums. The high school is home to more than 2,000 students.

Last Thursday, a focus group was conducted for Framingham High faculty and staff, and on Friday, one was held for Framingham High students.

A 15-member screening committee, which includes Framingham Public Schools Chief Academic Officer Sonia Diaz, will begin meeting on Monday, March 20, to review resumes. The deadline for resumes was recently extended.

The screening committee is expected to interview about 10 applicants between April 3-5, said London.

London said the Committee will select four finalists, who will visit the district the week of April 24.

Interim Superintendent Ed Gotgart and newly named Superintendent Trembley are expected to name a new high school principal the week of May 8, said London.

Under state law, the Superintendent of Schools and not the elected School Committee is in charge of hiring principals.

Members of the screening committee include:

  1. Ildefonso Arellano (District’s Assistant Director of Special Education)
  2. Glenda Cohen (English as a Second Language teacher, Framingham resident)
  3. Jeff Convery (FAA President, Framingham High Vice Principal, parent of Framingham High student and graduate)
