FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Squirt A hockey team posed for a photo yesterday to support Devin Suau, a Stapleton Elementary student, battling an inoperable brain tumor. They took a team photo with the words #WhyNotDevin
Christine and James Suau, have asked the community to raise awareness about the disease their youngest son is battling, with that hashtag.
Devin was diagnosed last month with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), which is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer typically found in children under the age of 10. Only 200-300 children in the U.S. annually are diagnosed with DIPG, which has no cure. The tumor is located at the base of the brain and the top of the spine, and over time it will impact Devin’s essential bodily functions: heartbeat, breathing, swallowing, eyesight, and balance.
The Suau family is hoping to find a cure for the disease, and hope that Devin will be the first to beat the diagnosis.
His aunt created a GoFundMe, in and in just a couple of days more than $100,000 has been raised. Presently, the fund has more than $175,000.
