Framingham Police Warn of Netflix Scam Alert

FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Police are warning of a Netflix scam alert.

“We have received important information concerning a very active phishing effort currently targeting Netflix users,” wrote Framingham Police on its Facebook page in the last hour.

“If you are a Netflix customer and you receive an email asking you to update your membership information, don’t respond!,” recommend Framingham Police.

It has just been reported by Fire Eye Labs that an active campaign to obtain personal and financial information from Netflix users is being conducted in the U.S.
Netflix users are receiving an email claiming to be from the company asking them to update their Netflix login information, wrote Framingham Police.

After providing this, a second screen appears which asks users to validate their payment information by providing:
Name on credit card
Card Number
Card Expiration Date
Card Security Code
Social Security Number

After Netflix customers have provided their information on the fraudulent website, they are re-directed to the actual Netflix homepage, according to Police.

The phishing email looks surprisingly realistic and uses legitimate servers that were compromised, so security software may not recognize the email as a phishing attempt, wrote Police.
