WELLESLEY – The Framingham High gymnastics team remained undefeated with a close road victory over Wellesley High School Tuesday night.
The Flyers defeated the Raiders of Wellesley 127.25 to 124.
Framingham High is now 2-0 on the season.
“I’m really proud of this team, and what we did tonight,” said co-captain Catherine Turner. “A majority of us are coming off of the stomach bug and we haven’t been practicing consistently in a while.”
The Framingham High junior said “Wellesley has been a huge competitor of ours these past few years, so it was just really exciting to see all of our hard work pay off.”
Wellesley was very strong on the floor exercises. The Flyers top scorers on floor were registered by junior captain Turner at 8.0 and junior captain Rachel Lew at 8.5.
“They had a lot of energy, so it was challenging meet,” said senior captain Stephanie Fawell.
Lew in her debut on vault this season, lef the Flyers with an 8.8. Turner scored 8.4 on the vault.
“Rachel’s vault was a major highlight,” said Fawell.
The Flyers struggled on the beam Tuesday night, with a couple of falls.
Freshman Sara Anastasi scored an 8.2 for Framingham and Fawell, who managed to stay on the beam, registered a 7.8. Freshman Tiffany Chan also had a clean beam routine for Framingham, staying on the apparatus.
On the uneven bars, the top Framingham gymnasts were junior Kalena Chin with a 7.95 and Anastasi with an 8.1.
Next up for the Flyers is a meet against Weymouth High on Friday, January 13 in Holliston.
