FRAMINGHAM – In response to area businesses that expressed an interest in connecting with potential employees, the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) will be hosting its 2nd Annual Career and Resource Fair on Thursday, Jan. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at the SMOC Café, 7 Bishop St.
SMOC hosted a successful job fair last August, according to SMOC component director of employment programs, Mark Knowlton.
More than 200 job seekers, who attended that event were interviewed by human resource staff representing 14 regional businesses.
“The companies that will be attending this week’s job fair actually called us and asked if we could help them find employees,” Knowlton said. “These are companies that have job openings, and in most cases they are well-paying, fulltime positions with benefits. It worked out very well for the people who attended our first event in August so we’re pleased that even more companies reached out to SMOC to do this again.”
Some of the companies that will be looking to interview potential employees include: Home Instead Senior Care, United States Postal Service, Cleanroom Facility Services, Riverside Community Care and Wayfair. In an effort to provide a ‘one-stop’ experience for all job seekers, the event will also include a number of resource services, including SMOC Financial Services, Dress for Success (Worcester), Mass Bay Community College and Childcare Resources.
“It’s important to SMOC that these companies at our job fair are offering to provide their prospective fulltime employees with livable wages and benefits. And for people who are seeking part-time positions, there will be many companies looking to hire those workers as well,” Knowlton said. “At the same time, people who attend our job fair can look into services that may need to further their education and training, or assist with family situations and child care once they are employed.“
